The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a shift in the date and venue of its national elective convention, now scheduled to hold in November 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The development was disclosed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, during the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Thursday.

“The NEC has agreed that the national convention will now take place in November, and the new venue will be Ibadan.

“This decision was taken in the interest of wider consultations and to ensure maximum participation by stakeholders across the country,” Ologunagba said.

Originally set for August in Kano State, the convention was moved to allow the party more time to consolidate on ongoing reconciliation efforts and prepare adequately for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the meeting, Acting PDP National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum, addressed concerns over party members who left for the opposition coalition, saying many were already retracing their steps.

“Those who left are returning. In fact, many of them are now openly admitting that they never truly left the PDP. They merely attended a few meetings out of frustration,” he said.

Damagum dismissed the coalition as “a failed political experiment,” adding that “the PDP remains the only truly national party with the structure, legacy, and vision to lead Nigeria forward.”

He further declared, “Only the PDP has the capacity to rescue Nigeria from the hardship brought by the APC-led administration.”

The leadership also cautioned against accommodating political opportunists. “We must be careful not to allow those who abandoned the party to waltz back in without accountability,” one NEC member reportedly added during the closed-door session.
