The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced a bold move to empower young Nigerians by reserving 50% of its executive positions for individuals under 40 years old.
The initiative, unveiled by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji O. Khalil, aims to foster youth inclusion in Nigerian politics and encourage young leaders to take active roles in shaping the nation’s future.
In a statement shared on X, Bolaji declared, “ADC Has Reserved 50% Of Its Executive Positions For People Below 40Yrs. We Encourage Young Nigerians To Register With The Party And Take Their Space.”
The announcement has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many praising the party’s commitment to youth empowerment in a political landscape often dominated by older generations.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Bolaji emphasized that the policy reflects ADC’s vision of building a vibrant, inclusive, and progressive political platform.
“The future of Nigeria lies in the hands of its youth. By reserving half of our executive positions for those under 40, we are sending a clear message: young Nigerians must step up, lead, and drive the change they want to see,” he said.
He urged young people to register with the ADC, participate in party activities, and contest for leadership roles at all levels.
The policy applies to executive positions across the party’s structure, from local government to national levels, and is part of ADC’s broader strategy to position itself as a youth-centric alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party has also introduced mentorship programs to pair young leaders with experienced politicians, ensuring they are equipped to handle leadership responsibilities.
The announcement comes at a time when Nigerian youths are increasingly vocal about their marginalization in politics. With over 60% of Nigeria’s population under 35, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, the ADC’s move is seen as a strategic effort to tap into this demographic.
The party plans to hold youth-focused town halls across the country to further engage young voters and aspiring leaders.
As Nigeria navigates economic challenges and political uncertainties, the ADC’s youth empowerment policy could reshape the political landscape, offering a platform for a new generation of leaders to emerge.
