This one no be small matter o!

As per the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) notice wey dem drop for Friday, the light no go dey from Monday, July 28, to Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. (You wan know if people fit use candlelight or no?). Dem talk say this maintenance na to fix the Omotosho – Ikeja West 330kV power line. But my paddy, that fix go lead to serious power cuts and load shedding wey go affect plenty parts of Lagos.

EKEDC sef try to let people know say maintenance na needed bad belle matter for long-term light wahala solution. Dem fit talk say una go dey without light, but hope say una go bear with them as dem dey try to do wetin dem suppose do. Dem talk, “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. Do kindly bear with us.” Na so dem dey do am o!

This planned blackout come join the long list of frustrations wey dey make Lagosians dey rely on backup generators like say na food. Gist wey dey blow everywhere be say the electricity supply for Nigeria’s commercial capital no dey stable at all. E be like say dem just dey shine light for our eyes sometimes!

On other side of town, President Bola Tinubu don drop big news wey involve ₦4 trillion bond program wey go help clear plenty debts wey power generation companies (GENCOs) dey owe. Na during one meeting wey Tinubu get with the boys from the Association of Power Generation Companies led by Sani Bello for Presidential Villa for Abuja, him promise say dem go solve this long knot of debt matter.

Bayo Onanuga, wey be presidential spokesman, talk say the President don get anticipatory approval for this ₦4 trillion bond to shackle this liquidity wahala for power sector. Tinubu don admit say na serious load wey im don inherit from past administrations, and he promise to dey fair and transparent as dem dey try to clear all the mess.

“I accept the assets and liabilities of my predecessors, and there is no question about that. But that acceptance must be on credible grounds,” Tinubu talk, meaning say dem go verify everything sharp-sharp! Him talk say the current administration don attract over $2 billion new private capital to improve light situation for everybody. But the truth be say, liquidity crisis dey loom, and things fit turn upside down if no proper action dey taken now.
