Renowned singer Omawumi has firmly refuted Timaya’s claim that a younger Burna Boy once ordered her and fellow vocalist Waje out of a studio for doubting his potential to fly private jets.
Timaya made the controversial statement in a December 2023 interview, recounting how Burna Boy allegedly ejected the two singers from a studio session after they dismissed his ambition.
However, in a recent conversation with Naija FM Lagos, Omawumi denied the incident outright, labeling it as false and hurtful.
“That thing no happen,” she asserted. “What hurt me the most is thatpl I’ll Timaya mentioned me in such a condescending way just to hype Burna Boy.”
Omawumi, who expressed disappointment over being dragged into the narrative, emphasized that she values respect and professionalism in the music industry and has never publicly demeaned colleagues.
“Why bring my name into it?” she questioned. “Timaya himself has had embarrassing moments I would never share publicly. Even Burna Boy has always been respectful to me.”
She stressed that the only time she, Burna Boy, Waje, and Timaya were ever in the same space was in 2010 when Waje invited them during a recording session. According to her, she left the session early and nothing resembling Timaya’s story occurred.
Omawumi concluded by saying she felt irritated that her brand, built over nearly two decades, was being dragged into fabricated drama for the sake of viral attention.
