President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised his full support to Nigeria’s female national soccer team, the Super Falcons, as the team prepares to face hosts Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) later on Saturday.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President urged the team to “make history” by securing a record-extending 10th continental title.

He praised the Super Falcons’ unbeaten run throughout the tournament, describing their campaign as “awe-inspiring” and a source of immense pride for the nation.

“Your performance at this tournament over the past three weeks has been awe-inspiring. You have represented our country with pride, honour, and strength,” the President stated.

“On the pitch and off the pitch, you have demonstrated true sportsmanship.”

He also commended the players for their display of compassion following their semi-final win against South Africa. .

“If statistics alone win matches, you are already champions,” he said.

“Unbeaten in the group stages, victorious in the knockout rounds, and conceding only a goal in the semi-finals.”

He added that Nigeria’s pedigree in the competition, having triumphed in all previous nine finals, should serve as a further source of motivation.

To buttress the importance of the match, the President has dispatched a presidential delegation to Rabat, led by the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa.

The delegation also includes Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of State for Finance; Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, Minister of Women Affairs; and Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission.

The Super Falcons will take on Morocco tonight at 9:00 p.m. local time at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
