The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested and arraigned six individuals for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting residents through a fake Android phone lottery scheme at Iyana-Ipaja.
The suspects — Amaike Nelson (43), Kenneth Opuana (56), Oguntade Olusegun (63), Ogologo Obi (29), Goodluck Abel (28), and Oluwafunmilayo Adebimpe (19) — were apprehended following credible intelligence reports.
They were accused of luring a 19-year-old student, Rukayat Kamilu, into a rigged street game and coercing her to surrender her mobile phone and personal belongings.
According to the victim, she was approached by an older man, later identified as Oguntade Olusegun, who pretended to need help choosing a “lucky number.” After engaging in the game, her phone was allegedly seized, and she was asked to pay ₦100,000 for its return.
Taskforce operatives, led by Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele, swiftly intervened and arrested the suspects. Several empty boxes of Android phone brands, believed to be tools of deception, were recovered during the operation.
CSP Akerele condemned the act and reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to stamp out street-level scams in Lagos.
“Our duty is to protect the lives and property of Lagosians, and we will stop at nothing to ensure public safety,” he said.
The suspects were arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court on charges of gambling, extortion, stealing, and conspiracy. All pleaded guilty. The case was adjourned to August 7, 2025, while they remain in custody.
