Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, has dismissed concerns over recent defections from the party, insisting the LP remains united and committed to offering Nigerians a credible alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Usman made the remarks on Saturday, while addressing journalists in Kaduna State.
She described the APC-led federal government as “rudderless and visionless,” adding that its administration has plunged Nigerians into unprecedented hardship.
“The APC has failed Nigerians. The suffering of our people has never been this widespread or this severe,” she stated.
Reacting to defections from the LP to the ruling party, Usman expressed disappointment, labeling such moves “morally indefensible” and “legally questionable.”

She condemned the trend of politicians switching parties after benefiting from one platform, saying, “It is disheartening to see people jump ship after securing victory on one party’s platform, only to defect for selfish gain.”
Despite the defections, Usman maintained that the LP remains unshaken, arguing that those who left never truly believed in the party’s vision.
“We made some mistakes in candidate selection, but those lessons have been learned,” she said.
She further assured Nigerians of the party’s renewed focus and revealed plans to launch a nationwide membership revalidation exercise, state congresses, and a national conventionall approved by the National Executive Council.
Calling on aggrieved members to set aside personal interests, Usman said, “We will be more deliberate in choosing those who genuinely align with our mission of building a new Nigeria.”
She urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the Labour Party as it works to restore national dignity and deliver people-centered governance.
