The lawmaker representing Ife Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abimbola Ajilesoro, has explained that he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to what he described as internal wrangling and inconsistency within the opposition party.
Naija News reports that Ajilesoro, who made his defection official on the floor of the House on Thursday, July 24, 2025, issued a statement on Sunday, citing the PDP’s political indecisiveness and conflicting direction as key factors behind his move.
In the statement, Ajilesoro accused the Osun State PDP leadership of creating confusion within the party by attempting a clandestine alliance with the APC, only to abruptly pull out.
The lawmaker stated, “Consistency is the true foundation of trust. Either keep your promises or do not make them.
“The PDP leadership in Osun had made overtures toward aligning with the progressives, but internal narratives shifted along the way. As someone who believes in political loyalty and ideological alignment, I find it untenable to remain in a party that covertly supports the opposition while presenting a contradictory public stance.”
Ajilesoro declared his unreserved support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging to work for the success of the APC in future elections.
“Loyalty to one’s party and its leadership is non-negotiable in my political ideology. I have, therefore, chosen to align fully with the progressive camp and support the re-election of President Tinubu and all the APC candidates across the board,” he stated.
Ajilesoro formally resigned from the PDP via a letter dated July 22, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ilare Ward II, Ife Central Local Government Area, Osun State.
