Former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Paul Botwev Orhii, has officially resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Orhii, who once contested for the Benue State governorship ticket under the PDP, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 28, 2025, and addressed to the party’s chairman in Ushongo Local Government Area.

Citing his reasons, Orhii stated, “After intensive consultation with my family, friends, and thousands of political associates locally, nationally, and globally, I have decided to leave the PDP.”

Following his exit, the former NAFDAC boss is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where several of his close political allies have already defected.

The development is part of a wider political realignment currently reshaping Benue State’s political landscape, with multiple high-profile defections weakening the once-dominant PDP in the state.

Orhii, widely recognised for his humanitarian and charitable endeavours, enjoys strong grassroots support throughout Benue State.

In other news, former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Olujimi, has opened up on why she dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to making and sustaining tough decisions.

Speaking on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines, Olujimi described her PDP journey as initially exciting but later “very torturous and problematic,” saying it became necessary to “move on and re-energise.”

“The PDP journey was a very long journey. It was pleasurable at first, but then it became very torturous and very problematic.

“It was time to move on. It was time to re-energise. It was time to reorder priorities,” she said.
