Former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has claimed he was offered three ministerial appointments to abandon the idea of transforming the ADC into a broader opposition coalition.

He made this disclosure on Tuesday, during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

Speaking at the event where former Senate President David Mark was formally handed the party’s leadership, Nwosu said, “Some people tried to discourage us with promises of automatic ministerial appointments.

“They wanted to give me three ministerial slots so that I can take one and give two to others that I choose. But I said no. I chose a democratic future for Nigeria.”

He added that the effort was part of a larger plan to suppress the emergence of a viable opposition and push Nigeria toward a one-party system.

“Nigeria cannot be a one-party state after all we did to ensure the military exited governance,” he warned.

The meeting also confirmed former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as the new National Secretary of the party.

Nwosu further revealed that the ADC officially transitioned into the Coalition Party on July 2, with the process witnessed by seven officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He announced that the party’s membership had surged to over three million, boasting 28 senators and more than 60 members in the House of Representatives.

“Nigerians have shown that they detest what the party in government is doing right now,” he said.

Emphasizing the democratic values of the coalition, Nwosu stated, “We were very careful with the kind of people we are choosing to lead the party… in the best interest of Nigeria.”
