President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, says Tinubu deserves a second term like former President Muhammadu Buhari. He stated this in an interview with Trust Radio on Wednesday.
Onanuga dismissed claims of northern marginalisation as political tactics aimed at undermining Tinubu’s leadership.
He said, “This President is a Nigerian. He deserves the same two terms that Buhari had. Let’s not sacrifice the country for personal ambition.”
He criticised the Arewa Consultative Forum’s recent comments, insisting that Southern Nigeria also waited patiently during Buhari’s tenure and it is now time for the North to reciprocate.
Regarding claims that Tinubu’s administration has favoured the South-West in terms of appointments and infrastructure, Onanuga challenged critics to rely on data.
“You need to get your statistics right. It’s all political mischief designed to undermine the President,. There are bad roads across the country, not just in the North.”
Onanuga also pointed to key security positions as proof of inclusion, saying, “The National Security Adviser, Chief of Defence Staff, and the two Defence Ministers are all Northerners.”
He went further to highlight security improvements under Tinubu’s watch, especially in volatile parts of the North.
“Places like Birnin Gwari and Igabi in Kaduna are now safer. I drove from Kaduna to Abuja without incident, a journey that was once unthinkable,” he noted.
