The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that it retains the support, connections, national reach, and political strength needed to compete effectively in the 2027 general elections, despite recent defections by some members.

The statement was made by PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba in a press release on Tuesday.

The remarks were in response to comments attributed to Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesman for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who suggested that Peter Obi, a prominent political figure, would not return to the PDP for the 2027 presidential race.

Ologunagba called Abdullahi’s remarks unwarranted, urging him to focus on national issues through the ADC platform rather than targeting the PDP.

Ologunagba expressed disappointment at Abdullahi’s apparent unease with the PDP’s growing momentum ahead of 2027, accusing him of attacking the PDP instead of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Despite the defection of some members, Nigerians—the true backbone of the PDP—continue to stand firmly with our party. The PDP remains the platform with the support base, connections, national spread, and political muscle to defeat the APC,” he stated.

He added that the PDP remains open to collaborating with well-meaning individuals and groups to rescue Nigeria from APC governance.

Ologunagba emphasized the party’s focus on its reconciliatory efforts and the success of its 101st National Executive Committee meeting, as it prepares for a national convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan.

He stressed that the PDP would not be distracted by attacks from other political parties.
