The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a stern warning against underage and multiple registrations as it prepares to commence the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Kebbi State.

The warning was delivered on Wednesday, during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kebbi State, Alhaji Abubakar Sarkin-Pawa-Dambo.

“INEC will not condone multiple registrations, registration by proxy, underage registration, or any other unlawful attempts to register as voters,” Sarkin-Pawa-Dambo declared, urging full compliance with electoral guidelines.

He announced that online pre-registration will commence on August 18, while in-person registration will begin on August 25 at all INEC area offices across Kebbi State.

The exercise will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding weekends and public holidays.

The REC called on eligible citizens who have just turned 18, those who lost or damaged their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), changed addresses, or need to correct personal details to take advantage of the opportunity.

“This is an exercise for those who are genuinely qualified to vote. Any act of impersonation or falsification will be detected and punished,” he warned.

Sarkin-Pawa-Dambo also revealed that Kebbi had registered 2,032,041 voters ahead of the 2023 general elections, with a 97% PVC collection rate.

“Out of this, 1,847,752 PVCs have been collected,” he said, encouraging others to retrieve theirs when the next collection schedule is released.

He emphasised, “Our mandate is to ensure free, fair, and credible elections. We will not compromise the integrity of the voters’ register.”
