As the 2025 continuous voter registration begins, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kebbi State has issued a strong warning against multiple and underage registrations, declaring such acts as criminal and punishable under electoral laws.

Addressing journalists during a press conference in Birnin Kebbi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abubakar Dambo Sarkin Pawa, emphasized that INEC will not tolerate any form of electoral malpractice in the upcoming voter registration exercise.

He announced that the online portal for registration will open on August 18, 2025, while physical registration at designated centers across the state will begin on August 25, 2025, and continue on all working days.

“We want to remind the public that multiple registration and underage registration are offences that carry severe penalties. We are calling on eligible citizens, especially those who have just turned 18, to take advantage of this opportunity to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs),” Dambo said.

He added that the exercise also covers those with damaged PVCs, individuals who have relocated, and those who wish to update their voter information.

INEC registered over two million voters in Kebbi during the 2023 general elections, with more than 80% of the PVCs collected. The REC encouraged those yet to pick up their cards to do so at the nearest INEC office.
