Police in Jigawa State have confirmed the recovery of two more corpses out of the five victims declared missing in a recent canoe mishap.
It was reported that four people died, seven were rescued, and five were missing in a canoe mishap in Taura Local Government.
The incident happened when the canoe, carrying seventeen passengers from Digawa Village in Jahun Local Government Area to Zangon Maje Town in Taura LGA, capsized.
According to Daily Post, a statement signed by the Spokesman of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam said that more bodies were said to have been recovered two days after the incident.
According to the statement, “The bodies of two more victims were recovered and were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”
Efforts are still ongoing to recover the remaining victims.
The State Commissioner of Police consoled the families of the victims and also warned against overloading canoes to avoid future occurrences.
