Media entrepreneur and political analyst Dele Momodu revealed that ex-President Obasanjo and Vice President Atiku Abubakar had a deal for Atiku to succeed him after their first term.

Dele Momodu, in a statement on Friday, revealed that the deal backed by most governors collapsed before it materialized.

At the time, Atiku served as Nigeria’s Vice President from 1999 to 2007, while Obasanjo was the President.

According to Dele Momodu, “The deal was that he would take over after their first term in office but it fell through despite the humongous support from the majority of the governors.”

He added that despite being sidelined, Atiku remained loyal to Obasanjo throughout their second term in office.

“He still respected his boss and doused the tension in the second term when he was virtually stripped of his constitutional obligations and rights,” he stated.

“He accepted his fate with uncommon equanimity,” Momodu continued. Many in his position would have taken a confrontational approach, but he chose peace and patience.”

The media entrepreneur also praised Atiku’s conduct after leaving office, noting that the former VP transitioned successfully into private business.

“Since then, he has engaged in productive and well-managed businesses, unlike most of his contemporaries who cannot survive outside power and politics,” he wrote.

Dele Momodu further described Atiku as a man with Midas touch, adding, “Nigeria would have been a much better place if the majority of our leaders had been gainfully employed like him.”
