Big gbege don land for Lagos State University (LASU) as both academic and non-academic staff don begin indefinite strike wey don shut down the whole place. E start well on Thursday, July 31, 2025, and e be joint decision from four major staff unions wey dey vex over welfare matter and other palava wey management no fit settle.
The unions wey dey carry this wahala come get big names like Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT). Dem don drop letter directly to Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, make e know say dem no go take am easy until things change.
The letter wey wear title “Notice of Indefinite Strike Action” come signed by top dogs like Prof. Ibrahim Bakare (ASUU-LASU Chairman), Sylvester Idowu (ASUU-LASU Secretary), Oluwaseyi Lawal (SSANU-LASU Chairman), and Waheed Majekodunmi (SSANU-LASU Secretary). Dem also talk say as dem gather for Emergency Congress wey be like war room of the Joint Action Committee, dem decide say this strike go start sharp-sharp.
Dem make am clear say e go continue until all the demands wey get to do with staff welfare don gree settle. “The strike action go dey on indefinitely until all the demands of Staff Members are met by the appropriate authorities,” dem talk. E be like say dem no wan dull matter at all.
As the matter dey shine like fresh palm wine, dem take time talk say all staff for LASU and their sister campuses like LASUCOM and LASU Epe make dem pack their bags and stop work immediately. “Consequently, all members of staff of the University and its affiliate Campuses are hereby DIRECTED to withdraw their services…” dem don yell. At the end of their notice, dem no forget to give VC small shout out for his past efforts, but they still maintain say this strike no fit happen. “While we appreciate all the past efforts, we no fit take am again…” dem conclude. As we dey gather this gist, LASU management still dey quiet like say dem no hear anything. Na so the matter be for now.
