Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have secured their fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket 2024 crown after defeating Mali in a high-energy final.

This latest triumph brings Nigeria’s total AfroBasket titles to seven, cementing their legacy as the most dominant force in African women’s basketball.

Under the leadership of head coach Rena Wakama, D’Tigress extended their unbeaten AfroBasket streak to an impressive 29 games.

With the win, the team has also qualified automatically for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted in Germany.

Meanwhile, Mali, South Africa, and Senegal will head to the playoffs in March 2026 for a chance to join Nigeria at the global tournament.

D’Tigress started strong in the final, finishing the first quarter ahead at 26-21. The second quarter saw both sides trading points, ending 41-41 at halftime. Nigeria pulled away again in the third quarter with a 61-56 lead before closing the game with a commanding performance.

In the end, D’Tigress sealed the championship with a 78-64 victory over Mali.
