A devastating incident occurred in Idumoza Community, Uromi, Esan North-East LGA, Edo State, where a hotel under construction collapsed, claiming the life of its owner, Harrison Isesere.
The collapse happened on Friday, August 1, 2025, while Isesere was inside the building. Eyewitnesses reported that more than 20 workers narrowly escaped death.
Rescue efforts continued over the weekend, with Isesere’s body recovered from the debris on Sunday morning.
Local residents revealed to reporters that Isesere had been warned about using substandard materials during the construction, raising concerns about the building’s safety.
The owner was told he was using low-quality material. He used 12mm instead of 16mm rods for the pillars. There was no base basket at the pillars. Look at the result,” One of the neighbours, Andrew Inegbebor, said
“The building collapsed because of substandard materials that were used. There was no engineer on site. The dead owner supervised the house. The house later collapsed and k!lled the owner, but some workers escaped."
