National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has criticised former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai over his recent attacks on President Bola Tinubu.
Basiru noted saying El-Rufai’s comments were uncalled for and warned him against distracting the APC-led government.
Speaking on Sunday in an interview with Sunday Tribune, Ajibola Basiru urged El-Rufai to stop distracting the APC-led government.
He said El-Rufai should focus on something more productive ahead of the 2027 elections.
“El-Rufai should go and find a job to do. He can go back to school to enrich his knowledge or play with his grandchildren,” Basiru said.
“Why is he in a hurry? 2027 is far. The guidelines for the elections won’t be out until February 2026. He should not distract us.”

Basiru’s remarks followed El-Rufai’s comments on Saturday, August 3, in Sokoto while addressing ADC supporters in the North-West.
El-Rufai warned that Nigeria may not survive another four years under Tinubu and urged Nigerians to vote out the APC in 2027.
The former governor also stated he had joined the opposition coalition to ensure the APC is removed from power, saying he is ready to “mobilise Nigerians to eject the incompetent ruling party.”
Reacting, Basiru said the APC was focused on governance and party restructuring, adding, “We are too busy fixing our party, and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is busy with governance.”
