The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, says Peter Obi has no real chance of gaining strong electoral support in Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 polls.

Keyamo believes the region remains a stronghold of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which has deeper grassroots networks and political structures in place.

Keyamo made the assertion on Sunday, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

According to him, the North remains a stronghold of the All Progressives Congress (APC), due to its well-established political machinery and the influence of APC governors.

“If you put Peter Obi this time as president, he cannot penetrate the North,” Keyamo stated.

“We have our structures in the North. We have governors and our structures in the North.”

He argued that, unlike Obi, President Bola Tinubu and the APC have the political leverage and grassroots reach required to win across the region.

“Tinubu has built alliances in the North that Obi simply cannot match. The APC has a presence on every street corner in those states,” Keyamo said.

Commenting on the recently formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the minister dismissed it as unserious and ineffective.

“They are not going anywhere. But at least, they are keeping us on our toes. They are helping us to improve,” he noted.
