Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yemi Eleso recently shared the emotional and deeply personal story of how he discovered that the legendary Yoruba actor, Alhaji Abdulsalam Sanyaolu, popularly known as Baba Eleso, was actually his biological father. Speaking in a heartfelt interview, Yemi revealed that he grew up without knowing the identity of his father—and that it wasn’t until his teenage years that the truth was finally unveiled in the most unexpected way.

According to Yemi, he had always been curious about his father but lacked the courage to confront his mother about it. One day, while watching a Yoruba movie on television with her, she pointed at the screen and said, “That’s your father.” The man on the screen was none other than veteran actor Eleso, a household name in the Yoruba film industry known for his comic roles and decades-long contribution to Nollywood.

“I was shocked,” Yemi recalled. “I never imagined I came from such a strong acting lineage.”

He further revealed that although his mother had kept in touch with Eleso whenever he came to Ibadan for film shoots, she never introduced him to his father. At one point, Eleso tried to bring Yemi to Lagos to further his education, but his mother refused.

Determined to find his roots and pursue his passion, Yemi ran away from home as a teenager and traveled alone to Lagos. His first destination was a popular cinema, where he hoped to encounter his father. This bold move marked the beginning of his own journey in Nollywood.

Today, Yemi Eleso is making a name for himself in Yoruba-language films, building on the legacy of his father while creating his own path in the Nigerian movie industry.
