Pastor E.A. Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has endorsed gospel singer Gaise Baba’s modern remake of the hymn “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” during the church’s 73rd annual convention.
While addressing thousands of worshippers at the convention, Pastor Adeboye introduced the song by acknowledging its transformation by the artist.
“We are going to be singing a song that we used to sing when I was young and has now been made popular by somebody who, how would I call it, remodeled it,” he said.

“It’s a song that says I have decided to follow Jesus. You are going to sing it with total determination—let it be your song for the rest of your life.”
This public endorsement comes shortly after Gaise Baba’s version of the hymn—featured in his track No Turning Back II—drew mixed reactions online.
While the remix has gained wide popularity and millions of streams, some conservative voices criticised it for transforming a sacred consecration hymn into what they called a “club banger.” Music scholars and gospel traditionalists raised concerns about the loss of spiritual depth in the upbeat reinterpretation.
However, Pastor Adeboye’s decision to include the song in the convention’s worship session appears to counter those criticisms, offering it a powerful affirmation from one of Nigeria’s most respected Christian leaders.
The remix in question is a modern reimagining of the beloved hymn, delivered in Gaise Baba’s signature Afro-fusion style that blends Yoruba, English, and Pidgin into a soul-stirring gospel expression.
Reacting to the moment, which happened to coincide with his birthday on Wednesday, Gaise Baba expressed his joy and gratitude on social media, describing it as a divine gift.
“God crowned my birthday last night with a most AMAZING GIFT, to Him be ALL the Glory!!!!” he wrote.
