Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has shared rare insights into her 24-year-long marriage to her husband, Nnamdi Oboli, revealing that the couple agreed from the very beginning that divorce would never be an option.

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the 47-year-old actress explained that their commitment to staying married was made before they even exchanged vows.

“Staying married for over two decades… First things first, you have to decide. It’s a decision. From day one, we decided that divorce was not an option—even before we got married,” she said.

Omoni, best known for her roles in Being Mrs Elliott, Wives on Strike, and Okafor’s Law, credited forgiveness as a key factor in the longevity of their union.

“There’s almost nothing someone can do that you can’t forgive, if you want to forgive. We all have to realise that we’re all sinners,” she added.

The actress also opened up about how quickly their relationship blossomed. According to her, Nnamdi proposed just two weeks after they met, and they tied the knot only four months later.

“I was young. Till today, I don’t know how I agreed to marry him so quickly. But I know I fell in love with the way my husband loved me,” she recalled.

While she admitted their first year of marriage was chaotic, their shared decision to never consider divorce helped them weather the storm.

Omoni and Nnamdi, who got married in 2000, are proud parents to three sons. Their love story recently inspired parts of Omoni’s newly released film, After a Night in July (Sequel).

After a Night in July is so special to me because parts of it mirror my real life. My husband proposed two weeks in, and we married four months later! Our first year was turbulent, but we chose love. If you’re married or intend to marry, you’ll learn, laugh, and love,” she wrote on Instagram.

The romance drama, directed by Omoni herself, explores the emotional complexities of marriage, forgiveness, and personal growth.
