Nigerian gospel singer Chidinma Ekile has opened up about a near-death spiritual battle she faced during a recent 40-day prayer and fasting retreat.

The 34-year-old, who rose to fame after winning Project Fame West Africa in 2010, revealed the emotional and supernatural encounter during a testimony service.

Chidinma said she embarked on the intense retreat shortly after returning from the United States, following a divine instruction. The retreat, which took place on a secluded mountain, became a turning point in her spiritual journey.

“I went to the mountain. I’m not Jesus, but I fasted and prayed for over forty days. I lost weight. The experience was something I never imagined… I never knew He loved me this much,” she said.

The singer, now fully devoted to gospel music, recounted how she spent nights praying, worshipping, and crying in the wilderness. However, her journey took a dark turn when the devil allegedly tried to push her into ending her life.

“While I was on the mountain, the enemy… took me to the top of the mountain, to the cliff at night, where everything was dark. And right there at the cliff, the devil asked me to jump. The voice was so strong… I was about to take the jump, and I noticed I was being barricaded… Something was just there, and I was crying… God had mercy,” she tearfully recalled.

According to Chidinma, the experience was like undergoing a spiritual surgery. She described how God stripped her of emotional baggage and replaced it with renewed purpose and grace.

“It was more like I was in a theatre. God performed surgery on me, took some things and put in some. He broke me into shreds… I’ve seen it all, and material things don’t move me anymore.”

She added that prior to the retreat, she felt unfulfilled despite doing everything she believed was right.

“He showered me with so much love… peace inside of me… cannot buy with money. I was doing all I had to do, but I wasn’t fulfilled. I needed to move, but I didn’t know how. But Jesus is King.”

Chidinma made headlines in 2021 after officially switching from secular to gospel music under EeZee Global Ministry. Since then, she has released several faith-based projects, including her debut gospel album New Season and her latest 2025 release, The Road Best Travelled.

Her testimony has sparked conversation among fans and fellow believers, with many praising her courage and vulnerability.
