Nigerian rapper Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf often known as CDQ has shared the reason behind his decision to abandon a banking career and pursue music full-time.

In a recent interview with Echo Room, posted on Instagram on Wednesday, the Nowo Soke crooner revealed that he initially became a banker to honor his late father’s wish.

However, the job didn’t bring him any real satisfaction. He recalled how his passion for music kept getting in the way of his office duties.

“I quit my bank job. I couldn’t tell my mother or any family member then. I left the house and went to stay with Masterkraft in the studio. I told him banking isn’t my passion. I will probably just do it to make ends meet. But music is something that whether it gives me a return-back or not, I’m still happy doing it,” he said.

CDQ revealed that Masterkraft, a music producer and close friend who once supported him with accommodation and even lent him suits for his banking job, was shocked when he announced his decision to resign.

The rapper further stated that he was confident in his choice and told Masterkraft they would make it in the industry in a short time.

“I told him banking isn’t my passion… Let’s just focus on music. In six months, we’ll blow,” he recalled.

That breakthrough came sooner than expected. Within months, they secured a record deal and moved from the trenches to Lekki.

CDQ rose to fame in 2016 with his hit track Indomie, which featured Masterkraft and Olamide. A remix version featuring Davido pushed the song to even greater heights, cementing his place in the Nigerian music scene.
