The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed recent claims by its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, that the Federal Government is marginalising the North.
Naija News reports that Kwankwaso had recently accused the President Bola Tinubu administration of sidelining the North in terms of road infrastructure.
However, in a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Secretary, Olaposi Ogini, the party described Kwankwaso’s allegations as baseless and aimed at causing unrest in an already fragile national climate.
The NNPP described the accusation as a calculated attempt to incite division, stressing that Kwankwaso’s history of controversial and unverified statements contributed to his expulsion from the NNPP.
According to the statement, Kwankwaso’s actions have resulted in numerous litigations and misrepresentations of the party’s stance.
The party emphasised that, contrary to Kwankwaso’s claims, available data indicate that the North currently benefits from more federal road projects than the South.
NNPP called on Northern youths to independently review the government’s development projects and also scrutinise Kwankwaso’s performance during his time in public office, including his tenure as senator, minister, and governor.
The party added that Northern youths should disregard Kwankwaso’s recent remark.
It reads, “The NNPP views with great concern the recent unprovoked outburst by Kwankwaso alleging marginalisation of the North under Tinubu’s administration.
“It is sad that a former senator, ex-minister, and former governor would make such unsubstantiated claims that could trigger unrest.
“As we approach the 2027 general elections, we expect more political falsehoods from desperate politicians. However, leaders must be held accountable for their words, especially when such statements threaten national unity.
“The records are clear for any Nigerian to verify. Kwankwaso’s statement lacks factual basis and only raises questions about his true intentions.”
