This Is Not Democracy, APC Destabilizing Labour Party And Other Opposition Parties - Usman

The acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, has dismissed the recent wave of defections from the party.

Speaking to newsmen on Saturday in Kaduna State, Usman insisted that the LP remains strong and focused on providing a credible alternative to what she described as the “rudderless and visionless” administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

She urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the LP, saying the party is committed to restoring national dignity and delivering people-centred governance.

She described the current APC-led Federal Government as the most impoverishing in Nigeria’s history, noting that the hardship faced by citizens had reached an intolerable level.

The APC has failed Nigerians. The suffering of our people has never been this widespread or this severe,” she said.

Reacting to the growing trends of defections, including those from her party to the ruling APC, Usman expressed disappointment, describing the move as not only “morally indefensible” but “legally questionable.”

“It is disheartening to see people jump ship after securing victory on one party’s platform, only to defect for selfish gain,” she said.

Despite the defections, the LP chairman maintained that the party remains unshaken and will continue to enjoy the support of the masses.

She admitted that some who left the party never honestly shared its vision, adding that their exit has brought clarity and strengthened internal cohesion.

We made some mistakes in candidate selection, but those lessons have been learned.

“Going forward, we will be more deliberate in choosing those who genuinely align with our mission of building a new Nigeria,” Usman stated.
