Former Adamawa governor, Senator Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, on Monday, joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday, after leaving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bindow registered at his ward in Mubi North Local Government Area, where he was received by party leaders and supporters.
The defection makes him the third high-profile Adamawa politician to move to the ADC, following former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate.
Speaking during the registration ceremony, Bindow declared: “Today, I am joining a movement that places the people above party interests. I believe ADC holds the future for Adamawa and Nigeria at large.”
He added, “We have been spectators for too long. It’s time we rebuilt this country with credible platforms that put service first.”
Bindow’s defection is seen as a strategic win for the ADC, which has continued to absorb disillusioned members of both the APC and the PDP across northern states.
ADC state chairman in Adamawa welcomed the former governor, saying, “Bindow’s entry into our party reaffirms the ADC as the true home of progressive-minded politicians. We are delighted to receive a leader of his calibre.”
