The Federal government of Nigeria called the Super Falcons’ performance a moment of national pride that has etched the country’s name in gold across the continent.
Note that the Super Falcons arrived in Abuja, Nigeria to a heroic welcome earlier today, July 28.
“We warmly welcome our gallant Super Falcons on their triumphant return from Rabat, Morocco, where they emerged as champions of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations,” a statement signed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
The Minister didn’t just see the victory as a footballing feat. He described it as a “stirring testament to the resilience, excellence, and indomitable Nigerian spirit that the Super Falcons continue to embody.”
“With unmatched skill, stellar performance, discipline, and unity, our national heroines have inscribed Nigeria’s name in gold on the continental stage, making the nation proud,” he added.
The government extended gratitude to the entire team, players, coaches, and technical crew, for lifting the nation’s spirit and proving the power of sports as a unifying force.
“You have inspired a new generation of Nigerians and demonstrated the power of sports as a unifying and uplifting force,” Idris stated.
He also assured the public of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s unwavering commitment to improving sports infrastructure and creating opportunities for athletes to thrive.
“Let me assure Nigerians of the Tinubu Administration’s commitment to sustained investment in sports development and in our athletes by providing them with the resources and platforms they need to excel and inspire”, he said.
To celebrate their return, the government organised a reception procession from the Abuja City Gate through Eagle Square to the Presidential Villa, where the champions will be formally received.
