The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has asserted that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has fulfilled its primary promise to Nigerians on ensuring national security.
Bwala made this claim during an interview on Politics Today, a current affairs programme on Channels Television, on Wednesday night.
He highlighted the administration’s progress in addressing critical security challenges, particularly in areas previously known for high levels of violence. “He [Tinubu] made promises in electricity, but let me tell you, look at the fundamentals. Number one promise, the security of life and the welfare of the people shall be the responsibility of the government,” Bwala said.
Citing improvements in security in states such as Benue and Plateau, as well as a reduction in violent incidents linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Bwala emphasized a significant decline in insecurity since the administration took office. “We’ve been having a series of problems in Benue. Has it not gone down? We have had in Plateau. Has it not gone down?” he asked.

He added that the situation has improved compared to the high rate of kidnappings and violence witnessed in 2022 and 2023, particularly in urban centers.
His comments come in the wake of reported security challenges and attacks by bandits in some parts of the country.
According to Bwala, what remains are criminal activities that are not unique to Nigeria and should not be seen as a reflection of poor governance. “Insecurity has been degraded to a large extent. What we are seeing in Nigeria is criminal tendencies that have no core relationship with whether somebody is governing well or not, because it exists in every part of this world,” he said.
On the economy, Bwala maintained that Nigeria is on the path to full recovery. He noted that improved national revenue under Tinubu’s leadership has enabled state governors to enjoy what he described as “their era of oil boom.”
Bwala also dismissed the recently formed opposition coalition as inconsequential, stating that its leaders only took over the African Democratic Congress (ADC) because they lacked a viable political platform of their own.
“The coalition is not a threat,” he said, downplaying its capacity to challenge the ruling party in future elections.
