'PDP Should Focus On Internal Crisis, Not 2027 Fantasies' - Says APC

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to focus on resolving its internal crisis rather than issuing ‘hollow statements’ about the 2027 general elections.

The party dismissed the recent claims by the PDP that it has the structure and strength to unseat the ruling party in the 2027 general elections, describing the assertion as a ‘political daydream.’

Naija News reports that the APC’s reaction was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, in Lagos.

Oladejo, reacting to the PDP’s claims of being the only party capable of defeating the APC, said the opposition party’s rhetoric was rooted in desperation and a refusal to confront its internal disintegration.

“PDP’s claim of possessing the structure and strength to defeat APC is both laughable and detached from the current political reality in Nigeria,” he stated.

He questioned the credibility of the PDP’s claim to structure and strength, citing its prolonged internal crises and serial electoral losses since 2015.

“What structure is the PDP referring to—the same disjointed, crisis-ridden, and fragmented formation that has failed to present a united front since 2015? Or the same ‘strength’ that has led to mass defections and internal implosions across states?” Oladejo queried.

The Lagos APC spokesman accused the PDP of refusing to learn from its past electoral humiliations, stressing that the party’s 16 years in power left Nigeria economically and institutionally weaker.

“Nigerians have not forgotten the 16 years of PDP misrule that left our nation economically vulnerable, infrastructurally backwards, and institutionally weakened,” he said.

According to him, the PDP remains plagued by a legacy of corruption, impunity, and missed opportunities, factors that led to its rejection at the polls.

Oladejo maintained that the APC continues to enjoy widespread support across the country, anchored on progressive values and people-centred policies.

“From Lagos to Borno, Rivers to Kano, APC’s policies and people-centric governance continue to win the trust and support of Nigerians at all levels,” he said.

He described the 2023 general elections as a reaffirmation of APC’s national strength and grassroots appeal, noting that the Tinubu-led administration has since made measurable progress in economic reforms, digital transformation, and national security.

“If PDP believes its press statements and internal wishful thinking can substitute for credible leadership, national cohesion, and visionary planning, then it clearly hasn’t learnt anything from its past electoral humiliations,” he said.

He concluded by stating that Nigeria deserves a credible opposition, “not a party still chasing the shadow of its lost glory.”

“Come 2027, APC will again present to Nigerians a record of achievements, a unity of purpose, and a future of promise, not the empty boasts and recycled faces of yesterday’s failures,” he added.
