A sock worn by Michael Jackson during his 1997 concert in Nîmes, France, has been sold at auction for more than $8,000, highlighting the enduring value of the late pop icon’s memorabilia.
The white athletic sock, adorned with rhinestones, was discovered by a technician near Jackson’s dressing room after the show. It was part of the King of Pop’s outfit from his legendary “HIStory World Tour.”
Jackson frequently wore similar sparkling socks during performances of “Billie Jean,” where he mesmerized fans with his moonwalk and signature choreography. Though now aged and slightly stained, the sock remains a prized collectible.
Auctioneer Aurore Illy described it as “a cult item for fans,” noting the item’s appeal to devoted collectors.
This latest auction follows other high-profile sales of Jackson memorabilia. In 2009, a Macau resort purchased his iconic glove from his first moonwalk for $350,000. In 2023, a hat worn just before that performance was sold in Paris for over $80,000.
Michael Jackson passed away in 2009 at the age of 50 due to a drug overdose. Despite past controversies, his cultural legacy and fan devotion remain powerful worldwide.
