Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is now an extension of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Friday, Melaye said, “PDP has been purchased by the APC. The PDP is a parastatal of the APC.”
His claims came just a day after he formally resigned from the PDP. The former lawmaker, who once represented Kogi West in the National Assembly, accused PDP governors of failing in their role as opposition leaders.
He insisted that key decisions in the party are now influenced directly by the Presidential Villa. “They take dates for NEC meetings and NWC from Aso Villa”.
“Look at these PDP governors, are they acting as opposition? And you know how powerful governors are,” Melaye added.
He further alleged that internal democracy in the PDP had completely collapsed, saying, “This is no longer the PDP that once stood for the people.
“What we now have is a compromised shell, hijacked by individuals serving the interest of the ruling party.”
Melaye also expressed disappointment in the party’s national leadership, stating, “There’s no direction, no resistance to the ruling government, no courage. The PDP of today has lost its voice.”
