Renowned music video director Clarence Peters has declared Burna Boy as the biggest Nigerian artist, crediting his dominance to unmatched stage performance, star power, and strategic collaboration with top-tier professionals.
Speaking on the Afropolitan Podcast, Peters dissected what separates regular performers from true stars, emphasizing that Burna Boy’s understanding of the technical and creative demands of live performance sets him apart in the Nigerian music scene.
“Burna Boy is the biggest Nigerian artist, hands down, because Burna Boy loves being on stage, but also understands what he needs to be on stage,” Peters said.
According to him, Burna’s decision to surround himself with technically sound experts has played a critical role in elevating his performances globally.
“He’s become technically sound because he’s been garnished with people who are technically sound, because that’s important to him,” he added.
Clarence also drew a distinction between talent and stardom, noting that while many may be good performers, true stars — like Burna Boy — possess the charisma and presence that captivate both live audiences and global streaming platforms.
He likened the situation to Hollywood, noting:
“There’s a difference between an amazing actor and a star… Not a lot of stars, even in America. So Netflix is having it here and there because they’re not a lot of stars.”
