Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State, have called on Governor Monday Okpebholo to address what they term as unfair political appointments favoring a single ward.
The group, known as the Edo Concerned Group and led by coordinator Osamuyi Osadiaye, raised concerns that key positions under the current administration have been disproportionately allocated to Ward 7, sidelining the other 11 wards in Oredo LGA.
Osadiaye accused APC State Secretary Lawrence Okah of orchestrating the appointments, which he claims include roles such as State Secretary, Local Government Party Chairman, Assistant Treasurer, Publicity Secretary, Oredo West Constituency representative in the State House of Assembly, and a member of the Edo Produce Board—all from Ward 7.
Additional appointments allegedly include the Edo South representative in the Oil and Gas sector (reportedly Okah’s son), three Senior Special Assistants, two Special Assistants to the State Assembly Speaker, 15 revenue collectors in Oredo, and the Supervisory Councillor for the local government.
Describing the situation as undemocratic and a violation of fairness, equity, and inclusion, Osadiaye warned that the imbalance could spark a deeper crisis within the APC if unresolved.
He urged Governor Okpebholo to ensure fair representation for all 12 wards in Oredo at both council and state levels and to resist pressure to appoint the next local government chairman from Ward 7, which he said would further marginalise other wards.
Osadiaye expressed confidence in Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, describing him as principled and capable of correcting the alleged disparities to unify the party at the grassroots.
When reached for comment, APC State Secretary Lawrence Okah declined to respond to the allegations.
