Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United have made a formal bid for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, with the overall package potentially rising to €85 million.

Manchester United’s offer for the signature of Benjamin Sesko includes a guaranteed payment of €75 million.

The Premier League club believes the offer represents a fair valuation for the 22-year-old Slovenian forward, who is understood to be interested in a move to Old Trafford.

United are yet to receive a response from Leipzig, according to the BBC.

Newcastle United are also in the race to sign Benjamin Sesko and have submitted a bid in the region of €80 million as talks with the German club continue.

Manchester United’s offer is seen as a significant development, especially after earlier reports suggested the club would not submit a formal proposal without knowing Sesko’s interest in joining.

The club is also reportedly open to letting striker Rasmus Hojlund leave to create space in the squad.

Sesko has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for RB Leipzig and stands at 6ft 5in, offering a strong physical presence up front.

Despite previous financial concerns raised by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United have structured deals for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, worth a combined £130 million, on favourable payment terms.

The club is also saving on Marcus Rashford’s £325,000-per-week wages following his loan move to Barcelona and earned £5 million from Chelsea after they pulled out of a deal for Jadon Sancho.

Additionally, United received over £15 million through sell-on clauses involving Anthony Elanga, Alvaro Carreras, and Maxi Oyedele.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have reached agreements in principle for new contracts with defender Ruben Dias and midfielder Nico O’Reilly.

Dias, 28, joined City from Benfica in 2020 for £65 million and has made 222 appearances, winning four Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.

O’Reilly, 20, broke into the first team last season due to an injury crisis, making 21 appearances, mostly at left-back.

City are also expecting player departures before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips remain at the club but have not received any concrete offers, with Phillips currently recovering from Achilles surgery.

Midfielder James McAtee is attracting interest from clubs in the Premier League and Bundesliga, including Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.

Goalkeeper Stefan Ortega may also depart following the arrival of James Trafford, which has increased the number of senior keepers at the club to four.

Elsewhere, Dutch side Feyenoord have completed the signing of Anel Ahmedhodzic from Sheffield United on a four-year deal worth €18 million (£15.6 million).

The 26-year-old Bosnian defender made 114 appearances for the Blades after joining from Malmö in July 2022.

Ahmedhodzic expressed his excitement about the move, stating: “Things have moved incredibly quickly in the last few days. I couldn’t be happier. Playing for such a big European club is something I’ve always worked hard for.

“I’m grateful that Feyenoord is giving me this opportunity and that they’ve done everything they can to get me eligible to play in the matches against Fenerbahce. I can’t wait to put on this shirt and give it my all with my new teammates. Here’s to many great things to come.”

Feyenoord, who finished third in the Eredivisie last season, are hoping to register Ahmedhodzic in time for their Champions League qualifying match against Fenerbahce on Wednesday.
