Senate President Godswill Akpabio made a major slip during Wednesday’s plenary while delivering a tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In his remarks, Akpabio mistakenly said Nigeria was proud of
how “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was buried,” instead of Buhari.
“The whole country is very proud of what this administration
has done, in the way... President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was honoured and was
buried,” he said.
Akpabio, who did not correct the mistake during the session,
continued his speech as fellow lawmakers listened without interruption.
The gaffe came during a solemn reflection on Buhari’s legacy
and national service.

This is coming just a few days after Governor Hope Uzodinma
also made a similar mistake while addressing journalists, wrongly referring to
Tinubu instead of Buhari when offering condolences.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari died on July 13, 2025, and has since been buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, with full state honours.
