The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has slammed former governor Ayodele Fayose over his recent comments declaring the party “dead,” accusing him of betrayal and urging him to exit the party.

Fayose had stated on Channels TV that the PDP was now a “carcass,” a remark that sparked outrage within the party.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chairman of the Ekiti PDP Caretaker Committee, Dare Adeleke, fired back, saying Fayose’s remarks were born out of personal frustration after failing to gain control of the party structure in the state.

“Eventually, he admitted he was a bitter and disgruntled man who betrayed his own party simply because he didn’t get what he wanted,” Adeleke said.

“He is like a soldier who repeatedly sells secrets to the enemy and then complains about not getting promoted.”

Adeleke alleged that Fayose’s alignment with the APC stemmed from selfish interests, noting that his support for President Bola Tinubu was based on tribal ties and not ideology.

“He admitted on air that he supported Tinubu because he’s his friend and kinsman, as if Nigeria now runs on tribal sentiment and clannish association, not merit,” Adeleke stated.

The party insisted that Fayose no longer holds sway in Ekiti politics and challenged him to prove his relevance.

“If Fayose was truly as politically influential as he claims, he would have moved PDP’s structure in Ekiti to APC or ADC. But not one ward or LGA chairman has followed him.”

Adeleke reaffirmed the PDP’s strength, declaring, “The PDP will win Ekiti State and I am emphatic about this.”
