The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has inaugurated vetting committees to scrutinise the sale of Federal Government houses and the titling of designated park plots in the FCT.

This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday, by the FCT Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, during the inauguration of the committees at his office.

According to the statement signed by the Assistant Director of Information and Customer Service, Badaru Yakassai, Nwankwoeze said the committees were set up “following the discovery of serious irregularities and infractions in the sale of Federal Government houses in the FCT.”

He listed some of the infractions as “deviation from approval mandate, improper verifications, late payments, inadequate documentation, poor interdepartmental coordination and other specific violations.”

“The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, approved the constitution of the committees with clear directives, mandates, and terms of reference to ensure that all processes are completed within a reasonable time frame,” he added.

Nwankwoeze emphasised that the vetting team handling government house sales is expected “to restore order, accountability, and transparency in line with the original 2003–2005 monetisation and sales policy framework of the Federal Government.”

On the park plot titling, he said, “A second vetting committee has been constituted to align the activities of the Department of Parks and Recreation with the current land reform policies of the FCT Administration.”

Describing the initiative as significant, he stated: “The setting up of the vetting committees is a bold and irreversible step toward restoring sanity and public trust in the FCTA.”

He expressed confidence in the political will of the minister, noting: “The FCT Minister is determined to drive this process to a logical conclusion, and this forms part of the aspirations of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Nwankwoeze concluded by assuring Abuja residents that: “The government has deployed the necessary machinery to resolve all lingering issues surrounding the sales of the Federal Government’s houses and designated park plots in the territory.”
