A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Sani, has said that former president Goodluck Jonathan remains the most strategic option for northern part of the country in the 2027 general election.
Speaking in an interview with Trust TV on Saturday, Sani, who served as senior special assistant on media and publicity to former vice-president Namadi Sambo, said that power shifting must be guided by fairness and the historical performance of each region within the PDP.
INFORMATION NIGERIA reports that Sani was reacting to a rumor, claiming that PDP might be considering Obi for the next election as party’s flagbearer.

He said that the opposition leaders must evaluate how power has been shared between the regions since the party’s inception, insisting that the north has been deliberately shortchanged.
He said: “Between somebody making a promise and somebody who is compelled by the law that he must leave, which one will you take?
“He (Jonathan) has to go after four years. This one is making a promise. A promise can be kept and may not be kept either way. But on this one, you are sure that it must be kept.
“So for the North, I think Goodluck Jonathan is the best choice.”
Speaking over Obi’s promise to the coalition, saying that he will return power to North after completing his four years, Sani said that political promises must be kept.
He said: “This one (Obi) is making a promise. A promise can be kept and may not be kept. But on this one, you are sure that it must be kept.”
