Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday, officially swore in 57 newly elected Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), charging them to focus on service delivery and development.

Speaking during the ceremony at the Sports Ground of the Governor’s Office in Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the time for politics was over and urged the newly sworn-in officials to govern with empathy, equity, and accountability.

“This is not the time for politics,” he declared. It is a time to work. You have been called to service and I strongly believe that you will deliver good governance being the closest government to the people.”

He continued, “We have given you the platform, the tools and the opportunity. I urge all of you to use your office to drive the development agenda in your various councils. Govern with empathy and equity, regardless of those who voted or those who didn’t.”

Sanwo-Olu further advised the council leaders to appoint competent individuals to their cabinets and align with the administration’s vision for a greater Lagos. “Your emergence is a call to duty, be deliberate about service delivery.”

Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Bolaji Robert, said the outcome of the elections showed public trust.

“The victor is not just political; it is a demonstration of public trust and a call to deepen democracy at the grassroots,” he noted.

Speaking on behalf of the new chairmen, Mr. Sesan Olowa of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, said: “We assure the people that we will not disappoint we will deliver grassroots governance that works for all.”
