Veteran Nigerian rapper MI Abaga has shared candid insights into why he didn’t get married in his 20s or 30s, revealing feelings of regret and emotional unpreparedness that shaped his journey to finding love later in life.

Speaking on the Jay On Air Podcast, the rapper admitted he began to feel the weight of delay in his late 30s:

“I felt a little bad about being unmarried when I was 37 because my friends who got married at 25 or 26 now have 14-year-old kids. I have friends with children heading to college, and even my brother Jesse has a 21-year-old child. I don’t have any kids yet, so you miss out on some of that.”

Despite the lingering feelings of missing out, MI said he is ultimately grateful for the timing that led him to his wife:

“No complaints because I got the opportunity to meet this beautiful woman who I’m married to now. At the end of the day, when you’re not ready, you’re not ready. Everybody’s timeline is different, and that’s something that humanity forgets.”

The rapper revealed that after ending a previous relationship around age 39, he met his wife shortly before his 40th birthday. She was present at his 40th celebration, and their bond quickly deepened:

“At that point, I was ready. I asked her to marry me, and we got married when I was 41.”

Reflecting on his past, MI Abaga expressed remorse over how he handled earlier relationships, admitting to emotional immaturity:

“I have sadness when I think about how I was in my former relationships. I met a lot of kind women who were supportive. I just wasn’t mature and I was stubborn.”

Now married and more self-aware, MI’s story highlights the importance of personal growth, emotional readiness, and trusting one’s unique life path when it comes to love and marriage.
