Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is concerned about the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso’s indecision over defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Jibrin said only Kwankwaso would decide if he would defect to the APC from the NNPP.
There have been speculations of Kwankwaso dumping the NNPP for the APC.
Amid these speculations, Kwankwaso met with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
Political analysts believe that Kwankwaso’s joining APC would boost Tinubu’s chances of retaining his seat in 2027.
Speculations are also rife that the former Kano State governor may join the opposition coalition adopted by the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
But speaking with Deutsche Welle (DW), Jibrin said Kwankwaso was yet to decide his political direction.
He said: “My visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not unusual. Everyone is aware of my relationship with the President, just as they know the long-standing political respect between him and our leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Both are political giants.
Only Kwankwaso can make that decision. It is also a matter that concerns the President.
I am too young to reconcile such political titans, but reconciliation is always a welcome development.”
The lawmaker also dismissed claims that he was acting as a mediator.
“I am not a hypocrite. If there were any messages from Kwankwaso that I needed to relay to the President, I would do that.”
