Rasheedat Ajibade, captain of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, has opened up about her humble beginnings and the spiritual resilience that shaped her journey to becoming a continental football champion.
Speaking at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) “Power Must Change Hands” programme held on Saturday at Prayer City, Ogun State, the Atletico Madrid forward delivered a powerful testimony that left many inspired.
From Church Grounds to Global Stadiums
Ajibade, who led the Super Falcons to win their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco, recalled her days as a young girl selling Olive oil, Kunu, and Zobo at church programmes:
“I was once one of those young girls out there hawking Olive oil, Kunu and Zobo drinks in most of the deliverance programmes, but today, I give glory to God.”
She encouraged young Nigerians not to give up on their dreams, urging them to stay focused, disciplined, and spiritually rooted.
“Whenever things are tough at my club or with the national team, I pray. I do my part through hard work but never forget to seek God’s help.
“Please, don’t give up. Keep praying, keep fasting, keep working and keep believing.”
A WAFCON Star and Role Model
Ajibade’s role in Nigeria’s WAFCON 2022 victory was monumental. Though she scored just one goal, she was named Player of the Tournament and won three Woman of the Match awards, underscoring her immense influence on and off the pitch.
Her rise from selling local drinks in church grounds to captaining one of Africa’s most decorated national teams has become a beacon of hope for young girls, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.
Faith, Hard Work, and a Never-Give-Up Spirit
Known for her striking blue hair and energetic presence on the field, Ajibade has never been shy about crediting her Christian faith for her success. Her speech at MFM reinforced the importance of blending spiritual devotion with hard work and consistency.
In recent years, Ajibade has also emerged as a voice for women’s empowerment in sports, using her platform to inspire young athletes across the continent.
