Nigerian music icon Paul Okoye, better known as Rudeboy of the legendary P-Square duo, has expressed frustration over a rising trend among new-generation musicians — smoking during music video shoots.

In a fiery Instagram Story, the Reason With Me crooner called out emerging artists who excessively smoke weed (Igbo) on camera, questioning the need to light up even before the music begins.

“Dear new acts,” Rudeboy wrote, “Abeg, who tell una say whenever una dey shoot visualizer video, say una must dey smoke Igbo for camera? 20 sec music never start, you still dey light up.”

Rudeboy Questions Priorities and Health Choices

Rudeboy didn’t hold back as he tackled not just the visuals but also the lifestyle choices of these young acts. He criticized those who spend ₦50,000 on weed but struggle to afford basic meals like ₦1,000 Indomie without eggs.

“Well, na your choice oh, but make sure you dey eat well. At least, dey chop better food. Don’t tell me it’s swag or trying to look fly. You’re looking sick.”

“You dey smoke around 50k, dey battle Indomie of 1k without egg. Under pressure.”

Social Media Reacts

Fans and social media users have praised Rudeboy for boldly addressing a growing concern in the Nigerian music industry. Many agree that the obsession with appearing “fly” often comes at the cost of health, authenticity, and creativity.

A Wake-Up Call for New Artists?

Rudeboy’s blunt message may serve as a wake-up call to younger musicians to rethink their image, lifestyle, and the true cost of “swag.” With the pressure to look cool on social media, many upcoming artists may be compromising their health and finances — all for momentary clout.
