American rapper Soulja Boy has once again landed in legal trouble, following an early morning traffic stop in Los Angeles that led to his arrest.

According to TMZ, the “Crank That” rapper—legally known as DeAndre Cortez Way—was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over by police at the intersection of Melrose and Genesee Avenues at around 2:35 a.m. on Sunday.

Confirming the incident, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) stated:

“A passenger was detained, and police arrested DeAndre Cortez Way for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.”

Authorities reportedly spotted a gun inside the vehicle, leading to Soulja Boy’s arrest on the weapons charge.

The rapper, best known for his chart-topping 2007 hit “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”, as well as “Turn My Swag On” and “Kiss Me Thru the Phone”, has had several run-ins with the law over the years. In April, he was ordered to pay $4 million to a woman who accused him of sexual assault.

Despite the controversies, Soulja Boy has remained outspoken about his legacy. In a 2021 interview with Paper Magazine, he said:

“I don’t care about my place, bro… I know what I did for the culture. I know how lit I am.”

As of now, it remains unclear whether the rapper has been released or is still in police custody.
