The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the immediate arrest of gunmen and their sponsors who attacked its Anambra governorship candidate, Jude Ezenwafor, in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Sunday, by National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, the party urged the Inspector General of Police to apprehend the assailants and enhance security around Ezenwafor ahead of the upcoming election.

The attack occurred when gunmen ambushed and fired at Ezenwafor as he returned from an appointment.

Ologunagba suggested that the assault was orchestrated by elements threatened by Ezenwafor’s rising popularity.

The PDP also revealed awareness of planned smear campaigns by anti-democratic forces in Anambra to discredit the candidate following the failed assassination attempt.

Describing the incident as a stark reflection of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, Ologunagba emphasized that the assailants and their sponsors would not succeed.

“Our candidate enjoys the support of the people and will surely emerge victorious,” he declared, affirming Ezenwafor’s “divine destiny.”

Ologunagba encouraged Ezenwafor to remain undeterred, asserting that Anambra remains a PDP stronghold.

He stressed that no attacks, smear campaigns, or propaganda would weaken the resolve of the PDP and Anambra’s people to elect a transparent, humane, and result-driven administration under the party’s platform.
