Paris Saint-Germain and Moroccan international footballer, Achraf Hakimi, is facing possible 15 years in prison if convicted of rape, as French prosecutors have formally requested a criminal trial.
The case, which stems from a 2023 allegation by a 24-year-old woman, is entering a crucial stage. According to Le Parisien, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office has submitted a formal request for Hakimi to be tried before the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court. While this request does not imply guilt, it indicates that prosecutors believe there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
The request, signed on August 1, comes after more than a year of investigation.
Allegations
The alleged incident occurred on February 25, 2023, when the woman, who had met Hakimi through Instagram, visited his residence in Boulogne-Billancourt, a suburb of Paris. She claims that Hakimi kissed her without consent, touched her inappropriately, and that despite her attempts to resist, he continued. She eventually fled the scene and filed a police report the following day.
Hakimi was officially charged on March 3, 2023, and placed under judicial supervision.
Hakimi’s Response
The footballer has consistently denied the allegations, insisting the encounter was consensual and describing the accusation as an attempted blackmail.
Throughout the investigation, PSG has publicly stood by their player, citing his absence from training as due to “personal reasons” and maintaining that they respect the legal process.
The final decision now lies with the investigating judge, who will determine whether a trial will proceed.
