Dan Ulasi, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Chairman of the party in Anambra State, has firmly denied allegations that he ever criticized Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
Appearing on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Ulasi challenged anyone to provide evidence of him condemning Obi during his tenure as governor of Anambra State, vowing to resign from politics if such proof is presented.
The clarification came in response to a question about his support for Obi’s presidential ambition, given claims that he had previously spoken against the former governor. Ulasi dismissed the allegations as a “fallacy of generalization,” emphasizing that he has consistently admired Obi’s leadership style and governance record.
“I have never spoken against Peter Obi, and I stand by that. Show me any evidence from my time as PDP chairman or beyond, and I will leave politics entirely,” Ulasi declared.
Ulasi, a seasoned political figure, highlighted Obi’s achievements as governor, including his prudent management of state resources and infrastructure development, as reasons for his support.
He urged Nigerians to focus on Obi’s track record rather than unsubstantiated claims, describing the former governor as a “credible and visionary leader” capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
“What you are saying is fallacy of generalisation. I have never condemned Peter Obi’s governorship in Anambra State. If you present that fact, I will resign from politics in this country. I’ve never condemned Peter Obi,” he said.
Ulasi further emphasised his support for Obi’s presidential bid and the move by PDP leaders to bring the ex-governor back to the party.
He said, “If the party want to contest seriously in the next election, Peter has evolved as a political figure to all intents and purposes and these are the discussions that party is looking into.”
